This is a new arena for me and I have only just begun to explore the possibilities for this. I am an active member of facebook, I have setup two accounts and watch them both closely.
The first account I created was my personal account using my real name, and connected with real friends that I know. The second account I created was to represent one of my website projects. I have been tracking some trends for the past three months. Of primary interest to me are mainly what people share the most on thier profile, and what people invite you to participate in the most. One of the more interesting things is the drastic difference between people you know in real life and those you only know online.
I was inspired to even start evaluating these trends when I kept finding articles on how many companies are successfully maintaining brand presence among their consumers using facebook. The crazy Burger King fiasco comes to mind. Burger King was using whoppers to disrupt friendships..uh..okay..
As you can see it is easy to make missteps using this new media, and your misstep will be seen by many people all at once…yup..all in the name of marketing and brand recognition. As such, I have decided to carefully evaluate the habits of one targeted market, and one general audience with no real related interests other than knowing each other in real life.
