I have noticed a trend among e commerce websites. It seems that all across the board, as the weekend nears, consumers start looking for deals. I have been fortunate enough to have worked on a high traffic volume website ( 60K unique daily). I was developing an application that would read the server logs and allow us to evaluate website traffic by several different parameters. The primary goal of this application was to verify google paid clicks against actual server traffic. We were able to successfully dispute over $10K in false clicks over several months. Interesting huh?
Anyway, I digress. The real deal here is that I noticed that traffic would peak during the week. I noticed that consistently over several weeks, Thursday seemed to be the day that people would do the most shopping online. I thought maybe this was just a pattern in the laptop market.
I most recently worked on a website, that sells small electronics. This was not as high traffic as the previous laptop website, but the trend was the same. Every Thursday, we would see the highest sales and traffic volume. I was convinced this was just a consumer electronics trend until I built a website to sell clothing. Turns out the same has been true, at least initially for apparel. Shoppers tend to do the most browsing and or buying on Thursday.
Happy Coding!
