The ultimate goal of every website is to generate income. Many professional offering their services, can use a simple informational website to offer their services on the web, and potentially generate business from the website by encouraging interested visitors to initialize some form of contact. This contact can come by way of phone call or email, depending on the preferences of the website owner.

There are also E-Commerce websites. This is typically an extension of a brick and mortar establishment, but in todays market, that is not necessarily the case. There are many entrepenuers who simply resell products for a profit. They may benefit from search engine optimization to generate online sales or even use Google Adwords to pay for traffic.

Either way, the website you establish will determine your potential for earning income online. SgPro is a professional web design company based in Fort Lauderdale.
Keywords and keyphrases as it pertains to search, will return different responses from different seo professionals. This is mostly a result of experience.

Search Engine Optimization

Clearly a lesson I will share with all. SEO is an ongoing process of watching and learning. The diligent are ever aware of shifts in the SERPS…no I dont rap. I have been using a very cool tool..free tool I might add, which nicely delivers the top 200 search results from Google. Free Google Monitor will go through the list of keywords I enter or import from a csv, and look for a specific website among the results which can be reduced to as few as the top 5 results to the top 200 results. I have been comparing its accuracy to actual search from a web page, and the results have pretty much been inline.

Anyway, I digress. The point is that I have become more aware of how and when most importantly, to affect different search optimization techniques. I have been targeting a pretty competitive keyphrase, keyword combination. I have been able to break into the top 100 using pretty simple search engine optimization techniques. You can check out my website http://www.sgprofl.net for more details about the techniques practiced.

Over a period of lets say a week, I will watch the position of “the website” plummet from 60 ish down to below 100 ish. Not a very nice taste in my mouth as I profess to be an SEO professional. My first approach is to analyze the competition. What do I look for? Well it depends on the niche. After all, every niche has different techniques that work better than others. I blame it on the users really, after all, their words set the trend on what keywords to target after all. What is also evident, is that different niche websites emphasize different elements of search engine optimization, in order to affect a better position in organic SERP.

The keyphrase web design for example, would be very difficult for a new website to jump in and skyrocket to the top, at least in my experience. Web Design is a highly competitive keyphrase, and you will find that the majority of the top listings are websites with high quality inbound links. They obviously employ different techniques, and don’t rely on only one perspective of search engine opimization.

Keywords and keyphrases as it pertains to search, will return different responses from different seo professionals. This is mostly a result of experience. I have the experience to see websites perform well in organic results with both too many keywords, and very few keywords. Some websites make it to the top without using any meta tags whatsoever. I get it when people say that seo is white magic or black magic, depending on your perspective, and your objectives I guess. While there is no one key to success, there are some basic techniques to be observed in order to consider your website optimized.

Definitely always write for the visitors. Overdoing keywords may work in the short term, but using keywords properly in well written copy, will serve you better than spamming keywords in your copy in order to try and catch every possible keyphrase people might use to find your website. Definitely use sitemaps, both for visitors and for search engines. I find this tool useful for Sitemaps for Search Engine Optimization. Plan out your website structure. Write an outline and plan your link structure carefully. Definitely watch your server logs and see where your traffic is coming from. If you dont have access to one, you may consider sgpro web services to build a custom Statistics Platform for your website. I have experience with using server logs to dispute pay per click traffic. Dont underestimate the power of server logs, nor should you trust your pay per click reports.

I will cut this short here and add more later. Hope this helps.

The primary goal of this application was to verify google paid clicks against actual server traffic

I have noticed a trend among e commerce websites. It seems that all across the board, as the weekend nears, consumers start looking for deals. I have been fortunate enough to have worked on a high traffic volume website ( 60K unique daily). I was developing an application that would read the server logs and allow us to evaluate website traffic by several different parameters. The primary goal of this application was to verify google paid clicks against actual server traffic. We were able to successfully dispute over $10K in false clicks over several months. Interesting huh?

Anyway, I digress. The real deal here is that I noticed that traffic would peak during the week. I noticed that consistently over several weeks, Thursday seemed to be the day that people would do the most shopping online. I thought maybe this was just a pattern in the laptop market.

I most recently worked on a website, that sells small electronics. This was not as high traffic as the previous laptop website, but the trend was the same. Every Thursday, we would see the highest sales and traffic volume. I was convinced this was just a consumer electronics trend until I built a website to sell clothing. Turns out the same has been true, at least initially for apparel. Shoppers tend to do the most browsing and or buying on Thursday.

Happy Coding!

Twitter followers, real followers and not spam robots, are typically found by some sort of common interest.

Tweeting, to tweet or not to tweet. Well, I have found tweeting beneficial for driving traffic, especially when it comes to new content. Immediately following a post on Twitter, new content will immediately get at least as many visitors as you have followers.

As a web developer, I found this phenomena to be very interesting. I cannot say that the same immediate response can be found by members on other social networking platforms. Twitter is definitely a more targeted network of contacts. Twitter followers, real followers and not spam robots, are typically found by some sort of common interest. By maintaining a consisitent topic of conversation on your Twitter account, will help attract a very targeted demographic of followers.

Businesses can use many different social network platforms to acheive different goals

Street vendors are the latest trend of saavy business owners to use Twitter to interact with their customers. It totally makes sense that vendors would want to keep regular customers up to date on their location.

The real time interaction is definitely a plus for street vendors who may change locations on a daily or even hourly basis. Many street vendors have wisely chosen to reach thier customers where they are. This is essentially a prime example of how many businesses can reach out to their customers and maintain a “relationship” of sorts. While this is not necessarily the best move for all business models. We can clearly see how the street vendors can benefit from using Twitter, a popular social networking website.

Businesses can use many different social network platforms to acheive different goals. The first objective would be find where your customers are, and then seamlessly integrate your business into the environment.

Street vendors are advised to include the hash #streetvendors in their tweets to be searchable. List of Street Vendors who use Twitter.

This is a new arena for me and I have only just begun to explore the possibilities for this. I am an active member of facebook, I have setup two accounts and watch them both closely.

The first account I created was my personal account using my real name, and connected with real friends that I know. The second account I created was to represent one of my website projects. I have been tracking some trends for the past three months. Of primary interest to me are mainly what people share the most on thier profile, and what people invite you to participate in the most. One of the more interesting things is the drastic difference between people you know in real life and those you only know online.

I was inspired to even start evaluating these trends when I kept finding articles on how many companies are successfully maintaining brand presence among their consumers using facebook. The crazy Burger King fiasco comes to mind. Burger King was using whoppers to disrupt friendships..uh..okay..

As you can see it is easy to make missteps using this new media, and your misstep will be seen by many people all at once…yup..all in the name of marketing and brand recognition. As such, I have decided to carefully evaluate the habits of one targeted market, and one general audience with no real related interests other than knowing each other in real life.
